Privacy issue on the social media
Through social media
platforms, they can manage your community by violating your privacy. How does?
With your information…Talking about the power of big data and psychographic,
Alexander Nix, CEO of Cambridge Analytica, says that today mass
communications are carried out through demography and geography. And
Alexander Nix says that “these two pieces of information are not enough for us.”
Other than that, he says they need Humans personality analysis (psychographic). The
facebook company that keeps every activity you do, which has become the
operating system of people in recent years, has become a more populous virtual
country than any other country in the world with a population of approximately
2 billion. You are currently using this tool or it is using you. From my point
of view, the truth is that, if you use a product for free, you are the commodity
sold for money.
First of all, thinking
that it is unimportant, they can shape you and even the world by making your
psychographic analysis with the information and shares you use on social media.
Did you know that the data of 50 million voters living in America and using
Facebook are used in the election campaign without their permission? Or a large
Russian capital group published 3,000 ads targeting American voters.A month
later, another researcher found that, news for propaganda purposes were
published from 6 different Russian sources and these news were shared 340
million times. So that, this influence of the Russians on Facebook was
reflected in the silicon valley generic.
Secondly, if we do not
care and strive to protect our privacy, we may inadvertently face bad
consequences that are irreversible. I think this is a serious problem, we know
that there are companies that provide data analysis and strategy to governments
and military organizations around the world. The SCL Group, affiliated
to the Cambridge analytica group, where Alexander is the CEO, already
clearly writes on the site that it has “provided data, analysis and strategy to
governments and military organizations around the world for more than 25 years”
and In addition, it is a very serious problem that companies can make people
see the news they want and produce fake news by playing with algorithms.Furthermore,
Mr Nix; says he has about 4-5 thousand data points about every adult in
America. So they know you better than your family with 95% accuracy.
Some people argue that, this
privacy issue that can cause serious problems in social media as follows: “Why
would they care about the time we are online?” Or if you are not a president or
an important person, there is a large community that thinks that your
information will not work, and even that the purpose of collecting all of this
information is just to serve you advertisements based on your interests. I
explained with examples that the situation is not that simple and I would like
to point out that the data collected and stored in such detail cannot only
serve ads, because the cost of storing data is much more than the revenue of
the advertisement shown to you in a mobile application.
In conclusion, we have to
learn to use social media consciously and embrace the issue of privacy, because
nowadays the most important and biggest power is information and that's why
everybody is after this.We are starting to live in a world where reality and
fiction are intertwined. We must chase true knowledge, regardless of what is
dictated and persuaded to we and let some of our information be our mystery.
